Pin to remember this great recipe!

Good food choices are not just something that ought to be considered when it is time to make a New Year’s resolution that will likely be forgotten before February rolls around. Good food choices benefit a person in many ways, from avoiding certain medical issues, to weight loss, to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Making good food choices can allow a person to look and feel their best.

Healthy meals are often very simple to prepare and can cost less than unhealthy choices. There are many places online where one can find excellent recipes for healthy snacks and healthy meals. There are easy recipes and more complicated ones, and the variety of food choices is astounding.

Recipes online are not only plentiful; they can be customized to what one has on hand to prepare a meal. For instance, a person may raid the cupboard and find that they have no pasta left for that macaroni and cheese they planned on. However, they might discover a nice head of cabbage in the crisper, and remember a pound of turkey sausage they have thawing in the refrigerator. They can type those ingredients into a search engine and look for recipes that contain those ingredients. Instead of Mac-n-cheese they may enjoy a sweet and spicy, healthy bowl of Russian cabbage soup for supper instead.

Many times, good food choices mean ignoring the sweets and the high-fat choices and opting for fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meat cuts and whole grains. Foods that are high in fiber are usually healthy choices. Foods that contain vitamins and minerals, such as most vegetables, are always good choices.

Since a healthy diet can allow a person to lose weight, lower cholesterol, improve body function, energy levels and keep the heart and other organs functioning well, there is no need to choose unhealthy foods, especially with the many choices available of recipes online. It is simple and inexpensive to eat a healthy, well balanced diet, with a lot of wonderful variety available for selecting the best choices from the six basic food groups. The USDA recommends that a healthy adult eat three ounces of whole grains daily, with six ounces of grains total, two cups of fruit and two and a half cups of vegetables, and three cups of low-fat or fat-free dairy.

Good food choices do not have to be complicated or unappealing. There are plenty of wonderful healthy foods available, leaving people without a good excuse to not eat well.
